Competence Requirements for a Building Regulations Principal Designer

Principal Designers must possess the skills, knowledge, experience (SKE), and organizational capability to plan, manage, and monitor design work, ensuring compliance with building regulations. Key requirements, outlined in PAS 8671:2022, include behavioral competence, legislative knowledge, and technical design related compliance management.

Who appoints the Building Regulations Principal Designer

Under the Building Regulations 2010 (as amended in England 2023), the Client is responsible for appointing the Building Regulations Principal Designer. This appointment is mandatory for any project involving more than one contractor and must be made in writing
